…So I figured the best way to start this thing out was with introductions.  My name’s Kyle, and I’m a composer.  I graduated from Drury University about a month and a half ago with a B.A. in Music Composition, Theory, Conducting, all that fun stuff.  I just went through a very long and very interesting process of applying for graduate school (about which I’ll write more), and in the fall I will be attending the University of Oklahoma to pursue my M.M.  I’ve mainly written chamber works, but I’m actually in the process of orchestrating a setting of the Mass for chorus and orchestra.

Instrumentally, I’m trained as a bassoonist and a bassist, and I’ve done a fair share of conducting (as an undergraduate, at least).  I’ve also been known to play jazz piano, but let’s not talk about that…

I find that my major influences are Igor Stravinsky, Jean Sibelius and Edward Elgar, although my MP3 player is full of minimalists such as Steve Reich, John Adams, Philip Glass, and Terry Riley. (We’ll have an article later on the importance of MP3 players and such to composers).

Enjoy your stay!

Kyle
